Antalya’s Aspendos Theater hosts spectacular ‘Opera Gala Night’

The 31st International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, hosted by the Directorate General of Turkish State Opera and Ballet, recently dazzled audiences with its highly anticipated ‘Opera Gala Night’ concert. The event took place at the ancient Aspendos Theater, located in the beautiful city of Antalya, Turkey. The festival, which has been running since 1994, has become a renowned platform for showcasing some of the world’s most talented opera and ballet performers. This year’s ‘Opera Gala Night’ was no exception, as it left the audience mesmerized and in awe of the spectacular performances.

The festival, which ran from June 10th to July 10th, featured a diverse range of opera and ballet productions, including classic works such as Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’ and Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’, as well as more contemporary pieces like Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’ and Prokofiev’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. However, the highlight of the festival was undoubtedly the ‘Opera Gala Night’ concert, which brought together some of the most renowned opera and ballet stars from around the world.

The evening began with a warm welcome from the festival’s director, who expressed his gratitude to the audience for their continuous support and enthusiasm towards the festival. He also thanked the Turkish State Opera and Ballet for their unwavering dedication and hard work in organizing such a grand event. The stage was set, and the lights dimmed as the first performers took to the stage.

The concert opened with a stunning performance of ‘Nessun Dorma’ from Puccini’s opera ‘Turandot’, sung by the internationally acclaimed tenor, Marcello Giordani. His powerful and emotive voice filled the theater, leaving the audience captivated and in awe. This was followed by a mesmerizing ballet performance of ‘The Nutcracker’ by the Turkish State Ballet, showcasing the dancers’ impeccable technique and grace.

The night continued with a diverse range of performances, including a duet from Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’ by soprano Maria Guleghina and baritone Leo Nucci, as well as a solo performance of ‘O mio babbino caro’ from Puccini’s ‘Gianni Schicchi’ by soprano Nino Machaidze. Each performance was met with thunderous applause and standing ovations, as the audience was left spellbound by the incredible talent on display.

The ‘Opera Gala Night’ also featured a special guest performance by the world-renowned ballet company, the Bolshoi Ballet. They presented a breathtaking rendition of ‘Don Quixote’, showcasing their flawless technique and artistic prowess. The audience was left in awe of the dancers’ precision and grace, as they effortlessly executed the challenging choreography.

The concert ended on a high note with a grand finale featuring all the performers coming together for a spectacular rendition of ‘Brindisi’ from Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’. The 31st International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival’s ‘Opera Gala Night’ was truly a night to remember.
